Job Description
The Chives Agronomist will be employed on a full time basis from the Our Client’s Estate and will report directly to the Farm Manager

Ensure Our Client’s chive production operations meet or exceed the objectives of the business
Ensure Our Client’s chives operations are in-line with budgeted costs
Ensure Our Client’s chives operations deliver the projected crop yields per Ha at the targeted quality levels
Ensure Our Client’s chives operations are in accordance with the company’s ESIA and Sustainability ambitions
Principle functions of the Chives Agronomist
To fully and competently manage the chive production operations at Our Client’s Estate as a standalone enterprise. This will include:
Strategy: Chive production operations planning and implementation in line with the objectives of the business
Crop management: Oversight for all chive production operations in line with the objectives of the business
Finances: Chive production operations cost management and forecasting
HR: Planning of the chive production staff requirements
Training: Establishing appropriate training initiatives and programs for chives production staff development
HSE: Ensuring HSE compliance throughout the chives production operations
ESIA: Ensuring that the chives production operations comply with required global ESIA standards
In more detail the Chives Agronomist’s primary role will be:
Budgetary planning, monitoring and reporting:
To assist in compiling the chives production plan and budget for the year in collaboration with the Farm Manager, the Managing Director and CEO and other department heads
After approval of the plan and budget, implement the plan, monitor performance on a monthly basis and where necessary suggest changes to the plan to achieve the overall business objectives
To report any significant variation to the plan or budget to the Farm Manager and Managing Director
To report on the chive production operations progress in line with the objectives of the business
Operational control and monitoring:
To implement the short and long term chive production plan as agreed in the annual budget
To efficiently manage the chive production resources required to implement this plan
To ensure the chive production operations continually strive to meet or exceed the companies ESIA ambitions
To continually seek new and innovative methods and practices that lead to an overall improvement in the chive production operations and general efficiency across all aspects of the company operations
Farm Management:
To oversee all chive production operations, ensuring consistent yield and quality in line with the company ambitions
To oversee annual planting planning, field layout and land preparations in readiness for planting
To oversee planting program, ensuring crop production remains on track with annual targets
To oversee ongoing chive crop maintenance including irrigation and fertilization planning, crop pest and disease management, harvesting and all field labour related activities.
In these endeavors the Chives Agronomist will be assisted by the Farm Manager, the Managing Director, CEO and the business support staff
Key Skills
Must demonstrate effective communication and leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire across all levels of the organization
Required Skills
Academic - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a subject relevant to the industry
Work Experience:
Must have 10 years of commercial horticultural production experience in the tropics
Must have 5 years experience of growing of chives in the tropics with demonstrated success
Must demonstrate experience of relevant industry standards such as Global GAP, SMETA, BRC etc and have a working knowledge of how to implement such standards
Management Experience:
Must have a minimum of 5 years experience as a horticultural Chives Agronomist or senior agronomist in the tropics
